Wisdom Teeth

Wisdom teeth removal is an increasingly common procedure, aimed at reducing the risk to your oral and general health as these teeth come through. Wisdom molar teeth generally erupt between the ages of 17 and 24, at which time some individuals experience immense pain when there is not enough space for the teeth to grow in to. Thus, as the wisdom teeth grow, they may become wedged in or impacted, consequently increasing the risk of infection and inflammation in surrounding tissue. Common symptoms of infection include; red swollen gums, pain, limited jaw movement, bad taste or smell, and feeling generally unwell & nauseous.

The experienced team at SmileCo will be able to identify the amount of space available for your wisdom teeth to grow into. If this is insufficient, they will recommend early removal to:

  • Reduce pain & chance of infection
  • Remove any food traps created by the eruption
  • Prevent decay in wisdom teeth & those adjacent
  • Avoid the formation of cysts
  • Reduce crowding
  • Remove risk of undoing previous orthodontic work
  • Reduce the risk of jaw fractures

Root Canal

Root canal is aimed at saving a tooth that would otherwise be extracted. If left untreated, widespread gum and connective tissue infection & tooth loss may result. This treatment works to fix problems with a tooth’s soft core, or ‘dental pulp’. This area of the tooth contains nerves, connective tissue and blood & lymph vessels which provide oxygen, nutrients and feeling to the tooth. During Root Canal treatment, inflamed, diseased or dead pulp will be removed from the pulp chamber and the tooth’s root canals, before it is replaced with a filling to avoid whole tooth extraction.

Symptoms displayed by patients who may require a root canal treatment include:

  • Extreme sensitivity to both heat and cold
  • Pain & pressure at the tooth site
  • Tooth mobility
  • Tenderness & swelling of gums
  • Tooth discolouration
  • Pus at the site of pain
  • Facial swelling

If you have experienced any of these symptoms, it is advised that you make an appointment at Longford SmileCo Dental as soon as possible. Early intervention is the key to fast recovery and sustained oral health.

Implants

Dental implants are an advanced solution for patients wishing to replace a missing tooth or multiple teeth. This procedure involves surgically implanting a permanent biocompatible titanium material that is fused to the jawbone while ensuring the implant looks and functions like a natural tooth. They are able to be cleaned and maintained like the rest of your teeth and provide a reliable foundation for chewing. They are extremely durable fixtures that will not compromise the health of your surrounding teeth.

Dental implants can be a fantastic option for patients wanting to enhance their appearance with a permanent solution. However, depending on your jaw structure and general health, there may be a better alternative. A dentist from Longford SmileCo Dental will assess the state of your oral health, and recommend whether or not dental implants are the best method for you.

Check-Up

General 6-monthly check-ups are recommended for all patients who wish to properly care for their oral health. This allows our experienced dental team to thoroughly inspect & monitor your teeth, mouth and gums while taking preventative action to ensure minor issues do not have the opportunity to evolve into major dental problems. This is a fantastic opportunity to discuss oral health maintenance, including any at-home products or professional procedures that could work to further enhance your smile.

After the initial examination, a thorough clean is conducted to remove any plaque, and a fluoride treatment is administered to prevent decay and reduce sensitivity. Our clinics are equipped with the best in modern technology, which along with our experienced dental team, works to facilitate a comfortable, stress-free experience. We understand that not everyone likes going to the dentist; we can assure you that the more you go, the less you will have to worry about! Regular 6-monthly check-ups will ensure your oral health is properly maintained.
